CollegeNET Web Technology Now Improves Course Evaluations at Five Oregon Colleges and Universities
Web-based What•Do•You•Think?® Evaluation System Cuts Costs, Saves Time and Increases Student Response Rates
Portland, Oregon, July 19, 2011
CollegeNET, Inc., a provider of web-based on-demand technologies, today announced that its What•Do•You•Think? course and instructor evaluation system is now being used at five Oregon colleges and universities: Oregon State University, University of Oregon, Southern Oregon University, Mt. Hood Community College and Rogue Community College. These Oregon schools have joined several other prominent CollegeNET clients nationwide, including Stanford and the Office of the Registrar at Princeton, in replacing paper evaluation forms. CollegeNET's new, 100 percent web-based system is helping higher education institutions increase student participation, gather valuable feedback on teaching and course content, save administrative time and costs, and reduce paper consumption. Because What•Do•You•Think? is fully hosted by CollegeNET over the web, schools avoid the costs associated with installing and maintaining software on campus.
"The number of evaluations we've seen students complete rose dramatically after implementation," said Laura Jacek, Assistant Registrar for Course Evaluations at the University of Oregon. "Over 75,000 evaluations were submitted in Fall term 2010 as compared to only 32,000 printed in the term before we went online with CollegeNET. The increase in response means that we have more data to work with, and the data we have are more representative and more reliable."
By increasing student participation, What•Do•You•Think? yields a more representative sample and more accurate data. The system also enables authorized administrators and/or faculty to add or delete questions to make evaluation forms more relevant to individual courses. It provides immediate access to evaluation results, which allows administrators more time to factor evaluation data into the next term's course offering and scheduling decisions.
"We're very pleased to announce that five of our home state campuses are benefiting from the What•Do•You•Think? system," said Patricia Summers, vice president of marketing for CollegeNET, Inc. "In the face of budget constraints and rising costs in undergraduate and graduate education, we've figured out another service area in which colleges can leverage the web to rid their operations of paper, errors and expense."
