University of Oregon Implements Web-based Course Evaluation System from CollegeNET

WHAT•DO•YOU•THINK? System Increases Student Participation in Course Evaluations and Saves $200,000 Per Year

Portland, OR, June 15, 2009

CollegeNET, Inc., a provider of Web-based, on-demand technologies, today announced that the University of Oregon, a world-class teaching and research university in Eugene, Oregon, has implemented CollegeNET's WHAT•DO•YOU•THINK?® Web-based course evaluation system to increase student participation, improve teaching and reduce paper workflow.

The University of Oregon previously used a paper-based evaluation system to collect student feedback on each professor and course. As a result of this labor-intensive method, reams of paper forms were printed, distributed, collected and processed manually each year. But not all students had easy access to the evaluation system and many were excluded from the evaluation process. Furthermore, faculty and administrators were unable to access clear reports containing an actionable subset of information. With the introduction of CollegeNET's WHAT•DO•YOU•THINK? system, all evaluations at the University of Oregon are now completed by students online, at their own pace—significantly increasing the number of evaluations completed each term.

"We expect that CollegeNET's WHAT•DO•YOU•THINK? system will save the University of Oregon roughly $200,000 per year, while eliminating the waste of between 500,000 and 750,000 pieces of paper," said Sue Eveland, University Registrar, University of Oregon. "These savings will be realized within individual departments on campus and could allow each department to more efficiently serve its faculty and students."

WHAT•DO•YOU•THINK? reports information back to instructors in a more efficient and accurate manner. This helps instructors to better utilize the feedback provided by students to improve their teaching. By moving course evaluations out of the classroom and onto the Web, full-time students at the University of Oregon are now receiving up to three hours of additional instructional time each term. CollegeNET's online course evaluation system is substantially more reliable than paper-based evaluation systems and also provides better anonymity for quantitative evaluations.

Continues Eveland: "The University of Oregon was looking for a product that was robust and scalable. CollegeNET's WHAT•DO•YOU•THINK? course evaluation system is not only reliable and easy-to-use, but it is more than capable of satisfying both university and state legal requirements for course and instructor evaluation."
